bandanna skirt tutorial

this is my first tutorial and i am NOT a seamstress.

this skirt fits my 2 year old who wears a 2T.
first fold the bandanna in half, making sure the 100% cotton label is on the left hand side (it will be cut off)
cut edges off in a diagonal cut ( i used the pattern on the bandanna as a guide)
put right sides facing together and sew along the diagonal cut.

press your seams open, then fold and press the top of the skirt down about a 1/4"

fold and press again enough to fit your elastic. (i used 1/2" elastic, so i folded it down just short of an inch)

sew close to the edge of your fold, allowing a casing for your elastic. make sure you remember to leave a hole open to thread your elastic through. measure your elastic, cut, and thread through. when you reach the end sew your elastic together and sew close your opening that you left. i also like to sew the elastic along the side seams so that is doesn't twist. (does that make any sense?) and there you have a quick and cheap bandanna skirt perfect for a 4th of july celebration!

i decided to add a little eyelet trim. i recommend using a thread the color of your bandanna, it would be a little more forgiving. i also recommend sewing your trim on, on the top of the skirt rather than on the inside like i have done, i think it would have turned out more straight if i would have done so, yikes don't look too close!

a mind of its own

my previous post was supposed to have a lot more spacing, but i guess my blog has a mind of its own, i can't get it to change no matter what. does anybody know what causes this?

and the award goes to....

me?
really?

Here are the rules for the award:
1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link.
2) Pass the award to other blogs that you have newly discovered.
3) Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.

just when i think that nobody reads this blog, i get an award! wow, thanks so much to nap time journal for giving me this award!

i admit it has taken me awhile to pass this award along because i was having a hard time narrowing it down on who to give to. i could honestly give it to every single site on my blog list and if you've taken a look at my blog list you know that it would take way too long, so in keeping with the rules of this award i am going to pass this award along to blogs that i have most recently come across and added to my VERY LONG blog list:
1. Kayleen @ this old chair
4. Karen @ 365 days of slow cooking
5. Tiffany @ happy day
6. Michelle @ creatively dreaming
7. Amber @ unnecessary necessities
these ladies truly have lovely blogs. thank you so much for sharing your talents and giving me inspiration! and again thanks to nap time journal for awarding me, go pay her a visit. her blog is awesome, full of creative ideas.
oh and more thing, i was thinking i would like to know what kind of posts you like the most:
just leave me a comment and tell which one or ones you like the most. thanks!

payless is having their buy one get one half off sale. they have some cute sandals:

at first i wasn't really digging the gladiator style sandals, but now i like them. my only complaint is they are too flat. when i saw these gladiator's in a wedge, i changed my mind.

cute red wedges

i like the design on the strap

mirrored sandals? i kind of like, but i think i would have to see these in person.

these t-straps are pretty cute huh? i especially love the color.

ruffled shoes are my weakness.
