my not so extreme homemakeover: the kitchen { plan }

so now that summer is almost over, i feel that things might settle down enough for me to dive back into my not so extreme home makeover. i've got it all mapped out so let's pray that i can stick with it. i am still currently working on my kitchen. i have continued to paint my cabinets, but i thought i would share with you my plan and inspiration.

i have decided on keeping my walls green and painting my cabinets white like in this photo:

i even thought about throwing in a little accent of red...

i plan on putting some corkboard inside my cabinets so i can post my recipes that i am using...

do you not love this sign? i am hoping to make one similar to this...

i would love to have some pics and recipes hanging from clothes pins like this...

and make some chalkboard labels...

for my hutch i am thinking of lining it with burlap...

or fabric similar to this...

or if all else fails, paint it the same color as my walls like layla's...

i plan on spray painting my main light fixture oil rubbed bronze, hoping it will look similar to these light fixtures...

i would like to have some potted herbs...

i've bought some jars from ikea to hold things such as oats, brown sugar, powdered sugar, noodles, etc....

i am going to hang 2 to 3 shelves to hold them like she did here...

i am going to paint my table legs white, and chairs black like she did here...

and i really want to find or build a bench like this one...

i don't know where i found this picture ( it was labeled cindy's kitchen) but she has all the elements that i want to implement into my kitchen: white cabinets, oil rubbed bronze hardware, beadboard backsplash, metal backsplash behind stove, white sink and silver faucet.

another beautiful (dream) kitchen...

so there you have it. you can see my to do list to the right on my side bar. red= it's done, green = it's done and click on it to see it.

Kitchen room redo update

the kitchen is coming along slowly but surely. painting the cabinets is going to take a long time, but i am working on them. i thought i would show a few projects that i have done.

this rooster was given to me, here is the before

and here is the after with a coat of dove white spray paint

i had this magnetic board for a while but i had tired of it so...

i spray painted the metal with chalkboard paint and painted the trim white

i've wanted to make a chalkboard for awhile now but i couldn't find a frame that i liked and then it hit me that i could use my old magnetic board. the best part is it's magnetic too. i got that clock at k-mart on clearance for $12. i finally got around to sewing my curtains for the dining area. they are just a dropcloth that i cut in half and sewed. the dropcloth was $10! that makes for some really inexpensive curtains!

you can see the curtains a little better in this photo

i should have taken the before picture but the two plates ( on top and bottom) were some that i bought at walmart a long time ago. they had a pattern on them so i just spraypainted them dove white. the middle plate is from the thrift store probably a $1.00.

i finally painted the hutch! but its not finished i need to paint the back. i put one coat of black on and then felt like it was too much black. i think i will paint the back either the same color as the walls or put fabric over it. what do you think? if you want to see the before, go here.

if you want to see more transformations head over to between naps on the porch and check out metamorphis monday links.

My not so extreme home makeover: kitchen inspiration

okay so here is my long overdue post on inspiration pics of the kitchen. i wanted to use some photos of fellow bloggers, but lets just be honest i was too lazy to get permission to use the photos. i got these photos from BHG, country living, and potterybarn. to see the before pictures of my kitchen go here. so i have several options for my kitchen so lets begin

EASY AND SAFE opt. #1:
Walls: keep them the same (green)
Cabinets: white
Counters: same or black laminate

this is my dream kitchen! absolute perfection!
i know these two photos have blue walls but lets pretend they are green. or maybe i should consider blue, see why nothing ever gets done at my house decisions, decisions.

SAFE AND MORE WORK opt. #2
Walls: white
Cabinets: white
Counters: same or black laminate

the white on white is just so crisp and clean, i love it!
BOLD AND MORE WORK opt #3
Walls: white
Cabinets: vintage green
Counters: same or black laminate

maybe because its spring, but i am really digging the green cabinets. it would be so cute in my little, old house.
BOLD AND MORE WORK opt. #4
Walls: vintage jade green
Cabinets: white
Counters: same or black laminate

{ i love the flooring in this photo!} {and the vintage appliances and mulitcolored chairs!}

here are some random kitchen photos that i really liked:

this kitchen has the farmhouse feel that i like

i love the bright and bold colors

this is a brilliant idea to hide your grocery list!

chalkboard doors, awesome

maybe i should go all white and bring in the vintage jade green accessories

is it called jadite? or something like that, i don't know but i know i love it
it's probably really expensive

did i mention that i love vintage?

i would love to have a pantry like this, oh wait i would just love to have a pantry period. some day

i am seriously thinking about painting my table and chairs like this

i've been collecting random glass containers to display on shelf like this one in my kitchen

screen door on the pantry, love it!

like the dishes hanging above the cabinets and the love the light fixtures

pretty much love everything about this kitchen, except for the glass door fridge

love the pop of green, the chalkboard fridge, and the wood plank ceiling
wow that was a lot of photos! so tell me what you think, which option do you like best:
opt #1
walls: same (green)
cabinets: white
counters: same or black laminate
opt. #2
walls: white
cabinets: white
counters: same or black laminate
opt #3
walls: white
cabinets: vintage jade green
counters: same or black laminate
opt #4

like i said decisions, decisions!
